Learning objectives:

1. Explain how trauma affects the brain and body and how it may appear in client behavior, including avoidance, distrust, low stress tolerance, and fragmented storytelling.

2. Use trauma-informed approaches when interviewing clients and gathering information by building trust, acknowledging concerns and redirecting as needed, and breaking tasks into manageable steps.

3. Respond with compassion rather than judgment when a client shuts down or wants to quit, and recognize when to connect them with professional support.
